Consumerism Lino Printing

Inspired by the works of Andy Warhol, students explore over-consumption today. They begin researching consumerism through primary source investigation, by photographing apparel, food, luxury items and more in their local shops or home. Students then learn the visual and written language of advertising through collage, before developing designs for a satirical advertisement. Students chose an over-consumed item, write a slogan that is both persuasive and sarcastic towards the consumer. By applying balance and contrast in their composition, and choosing a matching font, students finalise their design. The advertisement is then cut and printed twice to create a tri-tone series of posters in multiple colour editions, as inspired by Andy Warhol's work.
